León
Hotel Rincón del Conde

Both for its history and its enormous historical heritage and for its gastronomic offer, León is a great capital. Here are some of the essential places to visit in León.

León Cathedral
León Cathedral

León Cathedral is undoubtedly the most important monument in León and a good starting point for discovering the capital. Inside is the most representative element of the cathedral, 125 spectacular stained glass windows, which flood the whole temple with light and colour. Among its decoration there are curious figures such as a capital with a nun with two faces and a wild boar playing the bagpipes. I invite you to find them. The entrance fee is 5€.

Main square
Main square

The Plaza Mayor is the main stage for celebrations, bullfights and penal executions, and in the same square you will also find the popular Húmedo quarter. The most outstanding building is known as the Antiguo Ayuntamiento (Old Town Hall), which despite its name did not house the town hall. Today, two weekly markets are still held in the square, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Basilica of San Isidoro
Basilica of San Isidoro

Very close to the hotel you will find the Basilica of San Isidoro, probably the most valuable Romanesque complex in Spain, both for its history and its heritage value. The last part of the visit leads to the Royal Pantheon, where another Romanesque treasure is preserved. On its vaulted ceiling, some impressive frescoes are preserved in excellent condition. So much so that it has often been called the Sistine Chapel of Romanesque art.
